Despite standing only 6’3”, Marcus Owens made his living in the post. Marcus was a member of the 1989 State Championship basketball team as a sophomore. His junior year also saw another Conference Championship setting Marcus up for a truly special senior year. The 1990-91 basketball team was a talented squad featuring three All-State players. Marcus led the team in scoring and rebounding and still holds the Tosa East single season scoring record. Marcus led the basketball team to another Conference Championship and a State Runnerup finish. Marcus earned All Conference, All Suburban, All State Tournament and 1st Team All State honors. But basketball wasn’t the only sport Marcus excelled. Marcus was an exceptional hurdler finishing 5th in the State Meet his junior year in the 110M High Hurdles. Marcus also earned All Suburban honors his senior year for his outstanding play at wide receiver. Marcus went on to have great success in college basketball earning 2nd Team All Conference in 1995 and 1st Team All Conference and team MVP in 1996 while playing for the University of Hawaii – Hilo.
