Chris “Kit” Davis was a rare blend of athlete and scholar. He was fast, agile, and intelligent. On the track, Kit used his speed and strength as a hurdler and a long jumper. He was a pitcher and gifted outfielder on the baseball team, where he used superb hand-eye coordination and his long stride to make many running catches. He was an efficient batsman and outstanding base runner. Davis made his mark on the football field, earning 2 letters and winning 1 team MVP award as a defensive back and running back. With long strides he was deceptively fast with the ability to change directions on a dime and rushed for over 700 yards as a senior. When Davis got in the open field it was as if his head was on a swivel as he’d slash and dash through defenders. Against Shorewood he returned 2 punts for 115 yards including an 80 yard touchdown, the second longest punt return in school history at the time, and had another long touchdown return called back because of a penalty away from the action. It was as a defensive back that Davis really excelled. The intelligence to read plays, the quick break on the ball, and the sure hands allowed him to graduate as the all time interception leader. A 1st team All Suburban and Honorable Mention All State selection, Davis went on to be a 3-year starter at defensive back for the University of Wisconsin Badgers.
