Christopher Holmes earned five letters in his athletic career at Wauwatosa East – one in soccer, one in cross country, and three in track and field. He ran on the 1987 cross-country team, which finished second in the prestigious WIAA State Championship Meet in Madison, a competition that draws the best high school athletes from across the state. Chris is remembered as a stellar pole vaulter for the Red Raiders track and field team. His teammates recall him as a reliable and tough competitor, always at his best in major meets. As Chris himself once said, “The thrill of competition is what drives me.” He qualified for state as a sophomore, placing 10th  in the vault. In his junior year, he made the podium at state, finishing 3rd. In his senior year, Christopher achieved a significant milestone by setting the school record of 14 feet 9 inches, a record that stood for over 30 years. He completed his outstanding career by winning the 1988 State Championship, leaving a legacy that the school community can be proud of.
