Clare Eichner was one of the finest athletes to ever walk the halls of Tosa East. She excelled in both track and cross country and won countless titles and awards in various events. As a standout cross country runner, Eichner was a conference and sectional champion all four years of high school and went undefeated her junior and senior years, finishing both seasons as a state champion and receiving All-American honors. For her achievements, Eichner was inducted into the WCCCA Hall of Fame in 1996. As a track star, she won numerous sectional, conference, and state championships and was an All-American her sophomore, junior, and senior years. She was also given the Most Valuable Award in both her junior and senior year and was captain of her team as a senior. Eichner set eight school records and five conference records, and she was inducted into the WTCA Hall of Fame in 2008. After graduating from Tosa East, Eichner went on to run at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she won countless Big Ten and NCAA Division I championships and was voted Female Athlete of the Year in 1993. She was also a World University Games champion and a seven-time Big Ten All-American. Eichner was inducted into the University of Wisconsin-Madison Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009. As a professional runner, Eichner’s illustrious career includes multiple USATF Outdoor Championship placings and a 6th place finish at the 2000 Olympic Trials in the 5000m.
