David Leichtfuss was not just a basketball player, but a multi-sport athlete of exceptional caliber. His all-around athletic abilities were evident as he earned ten letters in three sports including four letters in basketball and tennis, and two in football during his time at Wauwatosa High, a testament to his dedication and skill. Dave excelled in basketball early on, making significant contributions from the guard position on the 1952 State Consolation Championship team. Dave served as Co-Captain during his junior and senior years and earned All-Conference honors in 1953 and 1954. Dave was a guard who averaged 16.6 points per game, including a school record-setting 31 points against West Milwaukee in 1953, which stood for nearly twenty years. Not limited to basketball, Dave’s leadership extended to the tennis courts. His achievements at the state level in 1953 and his role as Captain of the tennis team in 1954 are clear indicators of his versatility and ability to inspire others. Dave also played the quarterback and wide receiver positions on the football team and was a two-year starter in 1952 and 1953. His journey didn’t end at Wauwatosa High. After graduation, Dave continued to shine, playing basketball for the prestigious University of Wisconsin.
