The 1971-72 Wauwatosa East school year was a testament to Kevin Cartier’s versatility and excellence in sports.  With six letters to his name, he played pivotal roles on the football, boys’ track, and basketball teams, showcasing his diverse skills and commitment to each sport. He anchored the right side of the defensive line in football as a solid defensive end.  The opponent’s running plays seldom got past his stout frame, and when they turned up-field, they were overpowered by the Raider’s exceptional linebacking corps.  Cartier relentlessly ran down opposing ball carriers or sacked the quarterback when the play went to the left. Kevin also handled all place-kicking duties for the team. The Raiders finished the season as 1971 co-champions, and Cartier was recognized with All-State team honors. As a two-year starter and the center of the varsity basketball team, Cartier not only led the team in rebounding in his senior year but also exemplified exceptional leadership. His team spirit and dedication were instrumental in the team’s success. Cartier’s excellent jumping ability and dedication were key factors in the school’s State Championship in boys’ track.  Despite the transition to the then-new Fosbury Flop style, he continued to employ the Western roll technique, earning points and a place on the stand at the Suburban Conference Track Championship.
