Melissa Maas was a phenomenal athlete at Tosa East, lettering in tennis, track, and basketball all four years of her high school career. Maas was voted Tosa East Female Athlete of the Year not once, but all four years, as well. On the tennis court, Maas won two regional championships, two sectional championships, and two conference championships, as well as qualifying for the state tournament four years in a row. For her contributions, Maas was voted the tennis team’s MVP twice. As a track star, Maas was also voted Most Valuable Player. She was a conference champion and state qualifier twice, and she ran the fastest time in the state as a member of the 3200m relay team which had the state’s fastest time. On on the basketball court, Maas was voted the team’s Most Valuable Player three years in a row. She was the team’s leading scorer all four years and was the conference leading scorer and player of the year her sophomore, junior, and senior years. She made First-Team All Conference her sophomore, junior, and senior years, Second-Team All State her junior year, and First-Team All State her senior. She was also the All Suburban Player of the Year and the Pen and Mike Club/Milwaukee Journal Prep Athlete of the Year. Maas scored a total of 1,872 points over the course of her high school career, which ranks her 23rd on the list of All-Time Leading Scorers in Wisconsin. Upon graduating, Maas earned a full scholarship to play Division I basketball at Butler University.
