Rick Mongan was a versatile athlete, excelling in three highly competitive team sports: football, basketball, and baseball. In football, he was a key member of the 1986 Conference Championship team and played for Coach John Richmond as a wide receiver. During his football career, he caught 44 passes for 642 yards and 6 touchdowns. Rick ranks eleventh all-time for receptions. That same year, he was also one of the main cogs in the wheel of the 1986 Conference Championship Basketball team. The team, including Tony Smith, was expected to win the state tournament based on its incredible talent. However, in a fiercely competitive match, the Red Raiders lost in the second round against Sheboygan North, 47-49. Finally, Rick was a great all-around baseball player who could hit and was a very effective fielder. Rick earned eight letters during his high school years and attributes his success to all of the outstanding coaches he had the pleasure of playing for. His gratitude towards his coaches underscores the crucial role of mentorship in his athletic journey.
