In her first year of high school, Sarah began her athletic career by joining tennis, a sport she had never played before. With determined focus and inspiring coaching, Sarah and her doubles partner competed at the State Tennis Championships three years in a row. Her industrious nature and benevolent leadership helped her shine, resulting in her earning Team Captain and MVP during her Senior year. As a midfielder in soccer, Sarah offered skills that were instrumental in helping her team compete in a very challenging conference. As a freshman, Sarah moved up to varsity soccer at the end of the 2003 season to help her team compete at State. Her versatility, perseverance and teamwork were recognized during her Senior year with First-Team All-Conference honors. As a 3-year starter on the varsity basketball team, Sarah and her teammates improved their record each consecutive year, ending the 2006 season with a 16-5 record. As point guard, Sarah set the tone and maintained the cadence of every basketball game. She served as Team Captain, earned the Coaches Award and received All-Conference Honorable Mention recognition her Senior year. Sarah’s contributions to the Tosa East Athletic program set a performance standard that was genuinely admired by her teammates, students, and Coaches. Her competitiveness and selflessness were on display during every game and more importantly, every practice. While she was never the tallest, strongest or fastest on the court or field, she always gave it her all until the final point, buzzer and whistle. In 2006, Sarah was recognized with the Colleen Mickey Award, and she was named Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year. Amidst all the time dedicated to sports, Sarah stayed focused on her learning and was active in several campus clubs and student honor societies.
