Tom Tiernan, with his long legs and towering height of 6’4″, was a record-breaker in track and field. His blazing speed coupled with his commitment and dedication were just the beginning of his impressive career. He held the school record for the 100-yard dash and the 200-yard dash, a feat that still stands as a testament to his talent and dedication. His victory in the 220-yard dash in the 1967 Wisconsin State Championship Meet, with an impressive time of 22.2 and a second place finish, was a proud moment for all who witnessed it. In addition to his athletic accomplishments, Tom also demonstrated strong leadership skills. In 1967, serving as Team Captain of the track team, a role that he fulfilled with dedication and excellence. Under the Coaching leadership of former Olympian and Head Track Coach Don Gehrman, Tom earned three letters, further solidifying his position as a highly respected leader on the team.
