As the son of legendary Wauwatosa High School Hall of Fame Tennis Coach Ben Peacock, it should come as no surprise that Wayne Peacock would have a love for the game of tennis. The wonderfully positive impact his father’s gift made on Wayne’s mind, body and soul didn’t guarantee success. Hard work, passion and all around athleticism were the foundation of Wayne’s success. He was a seven-time letter winner in football, basketball and tennis. He was a valued member of the varsity basketball and football teams his junior and senior years. After an injury ended his football career his senior year he joined the cross country team to rehabilitate and ended up finishing 11th in the conference cross country meet. Tennis was Peacock’s love and he followed a spectacular junior career, where he was nationally ranked and played against future stars like Rod Laver and Donald Dell, with being a member of the Wauwatosa High School varsity team for four years. During those four years the team won Suburban Conference Team Championships in 1954, 1955, and 1956. In both Wayne’s junior and senior season he was elected co-captain and was the leading player. The 1955 and 1956 Tosa tennis team won the WIAA State Championships with Wayne leading the charge winning individual singles championships both years. He received All State honors. Peacock was a member of the Wauwatosa Rink that won the 1956 Wisconsin State High School State Championship. Wayne won five Big Ten Championships playing tennis for the University of Michigan.
