Ben Peacock’s enthusiasm inspired and motivated students in the classroom, on the tennis court, and in the pool. He was both a popular physics teacher and an exceptional coach of two sports in which he had little background. Peacock was eternally patient, generous with his time, and always focused on the strengths of his students and athletes instead of their weaknesses. In addition to assisting the swim team coach, Peacock developed a successful tennis program as the head coach. The Wauwatosa High School tennis team won their first state championship under Peacock in 1947, and then won back-to-back state championships in 1955 and 1956. During Peacock’s tennis coaching career, his team went on a 79-match winning streak, a phenomenal accomplishment. For his success with the Red Raiders tennis team, Peacock was inducted into the WSHSTCA Hall of Fame in 1979. Peacock always viewed his time with his physics students, tennis players, and swimmers as a privilege. The respect he showed them inspired his students and athletes to perform at their very best.
