To say Bill Heuer had speed to burn would be an understatement. Few athletes can be extremely successful at sprints ranging from 60 to 440 yards, but that is exactly what Bill did. Bill held the 60 yard indoor school record for over 40 years yet made his mark in in the 440 yard dash. Bill helped lead Wauwatosa High to a Cross Country Conference Championship in 1960 and a Track Relays Conference Championship in 1961 and then earned a State Championship in the 440 yard dash for Wauwatosa East in the school’s first year of existence in 1962. Bill went on to have an outstanding track career at the University of Wisconsin. Bill finished 3rd in the 600 yard run in at the Big Ten Indoor Championship in 1964. He also finished 3rd in 1965 and helping capture the team Big Ten Championships. In 1966, he finished 2nd in the 600 and was Big Ten Champion in the Mile Relay.
