With his chiseled good looks, beaming smile and captivating eyes, you knew there was something special about Dave Morgan. And there was, both on the athletic fields and in life. Winner of nine letters, Morgan showed his versatility in track competing as a shot putter, running the 100 and 220 yd dashes and competing in relays. Dave was a two year starter on the basketball team that won Suburban Conference championships in his junior and senior year. A shooting guard on offense and a tenacious defender, Morgan was a two year 1st team All-Conference selection and earned 2nd team All-State honors during the ’64-’65 season when Tosa East won the State Consolation championship. Football was where Morgan’s star shined the brightest. Dave was a quarterback as a junior and a running back as a senior and a three year starter on defense. As a punt returner he holds the school record for longest punt return with a 95 yd touchdown to go with his Tosa East record career average of 29.6 yds per return. Not only could he return punts, but Morgan’s 65 yd punt is the school record for longest punt. A ferocious hitter, he bounced between linebacker and defensive back and was a two time 1st team All-Suburban Conference selection and was 1st team All-State as a defensive back. Morgan went on to play football at the University of Kansas where he was a member of the 1969 Big 8 Champion Jayhawks. Dave Morgan was an Academic All-American and Rhodes Scholar.
