Don Gehrmann

Track/Cross Country (1956 – 1968)

Don Gehrmann is one of the greatest athletes to ever come out of Wisconsin, and he helped bring out that athleticism in all of the student athletes he coached at Tosa East. Gehrmann grew up running on the playgrounds of Milwaukee’s south side and evolved into one of the greatest milers of all time. He ran in every prestigious race in the world, including the 1948 Olympic Games. Following his phenomenal racing career, Tosa East was honored to have him as a teacher and head cross country and track coach. Over the course of his career with Tosa East, Gehrmann mentored countless student athletes and coached his teams to four conference championships. As a coach, he stressed to his team the need to stay focused, work hard, and be tough – skills that would serve them well in all facets of life. For his accomplishments as a coach, he was inducted into the WCCCA Hall of Fame in 2014.
