There likely has been no one that entered Tosa East with as much fanfare as Jerry Smith. After being offered a scholarship as an eight grader at Longfellow by Tom Crean from Marquette University, expectations for Smith were high. Consider those expectations met. Jerry earned All Conference and All Suburban honors all four years. Jerry would lead the Red Raiders to Conference Championships in 2004, 2005 and 2006. Jerry was named to the 1st Team All State team in 2004, 2005 and 2006 (the first ever in state history). Smith was All Suburban Player of the Year in 2005 and 2006. Additionally, in 2006 Jerry was named the AP State Player of the Year, Gatorade State Player of the Year, Parade 4th Team All American and a Street & Smith All American. Jerry remains the Tosa East career scoring leader. Jerry would go on to play at the University of Louisville where he is a member of the 1,000 Point Club. Smith currently plays professionally in Turkey.
