Sam Waala’s dedication to the students at Tosa East is evident in a myriad of ways. In addition to being an gifted Mathematics teacher, Sam was a dedicated coach in several sports. Sam was the head wrestling coach for 8 season beginning in 1973. He assisted the boys cross country team from 1974-82 helping them to 5 conference titles (’75, ’76, ’80, ’81, and ’82) and 4 state qualifying teams (’75, ’76, ’78, and ’81). Additionally, Sam had two stints assisting the girls cross country team from 1989-95 and 2001-05. During these years the girls won the conference title in 1989 and qualified for state in the ’01, ’02 and ’03 seasons.
