Chris Holloway took being a multi-sport athlete to a new level playing five different sports in his four years at Wauwatosa East.
He particularly excelled in football, where he was a three-year varsity athlete as a wide receiver. He earned all conference honors each of his three years on varsity; being named Honorable Mention in 1987, Second Team in 1988, and in 1989 First Team. These accomplishments came at a time when the team did not throw the ball very frequently, yet he still earned the recognition from the conference coaches for his football ability. His senior year, he was also named All-State Honorable Mention and was selected to play in the Shriners All-Star game at UW-Madison.
Holloway was also a three-year varsity letter winner in track and field, competing in the hurdles, high jump, and as a member of the 4x400m relay teams. The teams he was on won the 1988 and 1989 Indoor and Relay Conference championships. He ran with the 4x400m relay team that took first place at the 1988 indoor meet.
Holloway was probably best at swimming, in which he competed in his freshman year only, earning a varsity letter and qualifying for the state meet in the 100m freestyle. The following winter season, he joined the basketball team where he played his remaining three years, earning two varsity letters. He was a member of the 1989 and 1990 North Shore Conference Championship team and the 1989 team that captured the WIAA ‘Class A’ State Championship in a hard-fought game against Eau Claire North, winning 49-48.
And to show how multi-talented he was, Holloway tried out for the varsity baseball team his senior year, played first base and outfield, and earned a varsity letter. Holloway concluded his time at Wauwatosa East earning 10 varsity letters in five different sports. He earned an athletic scholarship to attend and play football at Northern Michigan University, where he switched positions to defensive end and had a successful career on the gridiron.
