A 4-year letterman in swimming, William Weiss graduated from Wauwatosa High School with more individual state championships than any athlete in school history.
Competing at the varsity level his freshman year of 1957, Weiss competed at the WIAA State Swim Meet placing 2nd in the 200 Free Style and swimming the anchor leg on the 1st place 200 Free Style Relay. Weiss received All State Swim Team recognition for those events. His sophomore year he continued his domination of the 200 Free Style with a 1st place finish at the WIAA State Meet to go along with a 1st place finish in the 200 Free Style Relay, where his strong anchor leg helped the team set a new state record. He gained All State Swim Team recognition for those events. In 1959 Bill continued his mastery of the free style as he switched to the 50 and 100 Free Style. In leading Wauwatosa High School to the WIAA State Swimming Team Championship Weiss set new state records as he captured 1st place in both the 50 Free Style and the 100 Free Style. In addition to All State recognition, Weiss was awarded All American Swim Team honors. Completing a stellar career in WIAA State Swimming competition, as a senior Weiss won 1st place in the 50 Free Style while setting a new state record and equaling the national high school record. He won 1st place in the 100 Free Style in record setting time while gaining All State and All American recognition in both events. The Fisher Memorial Award for Sports winner finished off his career with a 3rd place finish at the AAU Indoor championships for All American Swimmers in New Haven, CT.
